This fall, Oberlin Public Library is joining forces with other county libraries to bring you a special author talk exploring the ways in which shared spaces are crucial to how people and communities form a more unified world. This event is part of a county-wide reading initiative centered around how communal gathering areas such as libraries, parks, churches, and schools can build equality and act as catalysts for solving some of our most pressing societal challenges.

This year’s visiting author, Eric Klinenberg, is a renowned sociologist and professor at New York University, best known for his work on social infrastructure and its critical role in fostering community resilience. As the author of Palaces for the People – How Social Infrastructure Can Help Fight Inequality, Polarization, and the Decline of Civic Life, Eric explores how libraries, parks, and other public spaces help communities thrive, especially in the face of crises such as climate change and inequality. His research focuses on how strong social infrastructure can reduce isolation and build stronger, more connected societies.

Tickets for this event are FREE to the public and those interested can register for the author visit at alpl.org/lorainreads. Light refreshments will be served as a part of the evening.
